Two studies were conducted to validate a Korean version of the Self-Beliefs Related to Social Anxiety (K-SBSA) Scale developed by Wong & Moulds(2011). Study 1 examined the factor structure of the K-SBSA using exploratory factor analysis(EFA) on the data collected from a Korean sample of university students(n=201) and evaluated its internal consistency. A subsample of 95 participants completed the K-SBSA once again after 2 and 8 weeks to examine its test-retest reliability. The results of EFA of the K-SBSA revealed a three-factor solution - Conditional Beliefs concerning Social Evaluation, Unconditional Beliefs about the Self, and High Standards for Social Performance, consistent with the original version of the SBSA. In addition, the K-SBSA and its three subscales showed high internal consistency and good test-retest reliability. Study 2 examined the replicability of the three-factor structure reported in Study 1, using confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) and with an independent sample of university students(n=461). The results of CFA indicated that the three-factor model provided an adequate fit to the data. Moreover, the K-SBSA and its subscales had good convergent and discriminant validity. In conclusion, the results of the two studies suggest that the K-SBSA is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring maladaptive self-beliefs related to social anxiety among university students in Korea. Lastly, the K-SBSA can be widely used to identify the cognitive mechanism underlying social anxiety or social anxiety disorder in Korea, establish treatment plans for cognitive-behavioral therapy, and evaluate its efficacy and effectiveness.
